[魚塘源野藝術節 元朗大生圍] The sustainable festival 2018 2018 20-21 JAN (12-6pm) TAI SANG WAI , YUEN LONG NEW VIDEO SHOWING <焉知> VOICE FROM ELSEWHERE] The Sustainable Festival 2018 (co-organised by the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and Art Together Limited) made a step on how art could bridge up the nature and people in Hong Kong . Visitors were able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery at the fishponds and learnt about how the eco-fish farming projects could preserve traditional practice and conversation of nature. “88 Steps on Cultivating Our own Rice”, A Japanese Wrapping Cloth by Lo Lai Lai Natalie The well-known “Half Farmer/Half X” advocate Naoki Shiomi has pointed out that hidden in the Chinese character for “rice” is the number 88. From this, he concluded that, “The process of rice cultivation is88 steps—and not easy ones.” Perhaps these 88 images are not representative of a particularly strict set of rules, but more a story of cultivation, fragments of a planting process where we may encounter a different set of 88 steps every time. The accompanying furushiki cloth has been hand-silkscreened in duotone colors to indicate the (as of August 2015) uncompleted steps of Sangwoodgoon farm’s organic rice experiment

exhibition/project - 寂靜春天來臨前 The Days Before The Silent Spring
photo/ Kwan Sheung Chi The Days Before The Silent Spring is a newly commissioned project from Hong Kong-based artist Lo Lai Lai Natalie. This multi-channel video installation sees the artist weave together a spectrum of footage shot from different points of view in an homage to the decade-long journey of the farming collective Sangwoodgoon, to which she belongs, while reflecting on the multitude of worlds tied together and myriad of life-forms germinated by the practice of farming. Founded in March 2010 amidst the Anti-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (Anti-XRL) and Protect Choi Yuen Village protests, Sangwoodgoon is a group of activists from different walks of life: photographers, designers, art and cultural professionals, educators, journalists, researchers, and writers. Over the years of their farming practice, they have all cultivated a deeper sense of connection and personal relationship with the land, and tasted the pride of new growth—as well as the exhaustion of a harvest. Expanding beyond the writing and observation of crops, flora and fauna, which is a hallmark of her past work, Lo now turns her gaze to her fellow farmers, whose divergent demands, hopes, experiences and struggles are not only testaments to the exhausting nature of negotiations, but also fuel for the collective as a whole. In the work, conversations among the members of Sangwoodgoon are interlaced with clips Lo shot in the field throughout the past decade, transforming the busy hubbub of daily life into a rustic polyphony across the field and its universe. From the interaction and fermentation of microorganisms to the various entanglements of flora, fauna, and the farmers, from the dissent and cooperation among group members to the correspondence and democratic cohabitation of communities, these overlapping sounds of the field together form a sonata set to a rhythm of sowing. The idea of an impending ‘silent spring’ comes from late marine biologist Rachel Carson’s warning about a forthcoming crisis of species diversity, penned in the 1960s. In her eponymous book, Carson anticipated a gradual erasure of life- forms and sounds caused by pollution from pesticides. And today, in fact, decades of environmental deterioration and global conflicts have brought us to a most appalling present. In this unprecedented chaos we still hear talk of vanishing diversities, lost autonomy, and the danger of silencing. Farmland may seem old and feeble, and the bacteria, species, and communities it nourishes may also feel trivial, but in precarious times their symphony could sound the beginning of a new act. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream. 搖,搖,搖小船, 緩緩順流下 快樂地,快樂地,快樂地,快樂地 人生只一場夢。 《划船曲》 (Row, Row, Row Your Boat) <今天應該很高興> (Merrily, Merrily) 為藝術家勞麗麗藝術碩士畢業展,勞氏以錄像、混合媒介及裝 置創作,直白呈現自身對旅程及自然經驗混沌不明的狀態,嘗試在適時整合梳理,成為一個精心 佈局過、引人入勝的花園迷宮,揭示了追尋烏托邦的過程中跟自然的角力與矛盾。 這也許是一個派對,一個逃避不了的旅程,賓客順流而走,轉入一個迷宮花園。百無了賴的自然風光繼續率真美好,微物之神既殘忍又誠實,頌唱了回歸人工自然的樂章。身體,確實想念野蠻的自然。 請賓客好好享受跌跌撞撞的經驗,拋出去的文字或影像,讓它們自己有時順流思考、逆流反抗, 賓客可以繼續保持腦袋清晰,也可以各自賣醉,遇上一個個來自他方我城,陌生又熟悉的傳說、 寓言或故事。瞬間,樂章奏起,請繼續輕快地竭力地走近理想中的目的地 —— 她可以是一座冰川、一杯期待以久透心涼的冰淇淋、一口解愁的酒、憧憬中那幅畫、一首唱給自己的歌曲。 或許沒有人在乎理想國有沒有出現過,下一個景象接通了這一個洞,在心中那一個又一個的空洞 ,我們繼續輕快地走近理想中的冰川, 竭力地翻起了潛藏内心的憧憬及恐懼。 The artist Lo Lai Lai Natalie presents her new video, mixed media and installation works in her MFA graduation show <Merrily, Merrily>, her work is liberating and perversely honest —the uncertainty on her personal experience on travelling and nature. She induced the chaos into an elaborate and compelling labyrinth. It reveals the paradox and struggle with nature when one striving for utopia. This might be a party and also an inescapable journey. The guests pass by as flow, and step into a labyrinth at the corner. The boring country sceneries are beautiful and uncomplicated as usual. The god of small things is cruel, yet honest. He sang the songs addressing the return to our artificial nature. The wild-life of our bodies shapes what we are today. Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy staggering along the way. The text and images thrown away are independent, act as it flows or rebel against the current. You are mostly welcome to stay awake or get drunk and come up with the stories, tales or legends seemed at once familiar and strange. Instantly, the chapter begins, we elaborately moving towards the idealistic destination with a swinging pace. She could be a glacier, a long-waited frozen ice-cream, a sip of alcohol that might ease your worries off, a picturesque scene that you have long dreamt for or a song that you sing for yourselves Possibly, no one would care about if there is an utopia we could reach. The images guide us to dwell in your hearts and revisit the inner emptiness. Let’s lightly move to the idealistic glacier , to uncover the hidden longing and anxiety with every effort of cordiality.

http://www.para-site.art/exhibitions/cafe-do-brasil/ Para Site藝術空間榮幸呈獻「巴西咖啡室」，展期9月13日 - 11月24日，開幕酒會9月12日晚上7時。 巴西咖啡室是一個聚會、談天同時攝入咖啡因飲品的地方，上世紀60至70年代中期，營運於尖沙咀海運大廈。在許多香港作家筆下，它是一間聚集着大量「文藝青年」、「探索激進社會及政治思想的地方」（呂大樂）。 展覽由三個章節組成。「章一：咖啡店」以一間地舖咖啡店的形式回溯Para Site藝術空間的兩場歷史展覽，1998年的「咖啡店」和2007年的「一些有關美好生活的提議」。「章二：明日聚會」佔據Para Site的展覽空間，它交錯編織着當代香港及中國內地年輕藝術家們的思考及創作，並延伸出一場持續的、近似咖啡或茶室空間的多邊閒談。「章三：在一起」是伴隨展覽持續發生的公共項目，是一場「在一起」的共飲，以及對歡欣、暈眩、宿醉、懊悔、重複試錯的共同經歷。 「巴西咖啡室」由瞿暢策劃。 Para Site is proud to present Café do Brasil, on view 13 Sep - 24 Nov, opening reception 12 Sep, 7pm. From the ‘60s through the ‘70s, Café do Brasil in Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, was the place for people to hang out and chat over drinks. The café features in the literary accounts of many Hong Kong writers as home to countless young intellectuals, a site for “the exploration of radical social thought and politics” (Lui Tai-lok). The exhibition comprises three chapters: Chapter 1: Coffee Shops uses Para Site’s new street-level presence to restage and revisit two exhibitions in the institution’s 23-year history—Coffee Shop in 1998 and ¾ suggestions for a better living in 2007. Occupying the entirety of Para Site’s main exhibition space, Chapter 2: All Tomorrow’s Parties interweaves works by contemporary artists from Hong Kong and mainland China with scavenged fragments that refer to Café do Brasil to encourage an ongoing, multilateral conversation. Finally, Chapter Three: Together, a public programme series taking place throughout the exhibition period, acts as an extension of the show—a get-together, a shared experience of joy, vertigo, hangover, regret, along with trial-and-error. In this prospect, the occurring “Pearl River Delta Arts Retrospective” is introduced as a triennial to feature in-depth reviews of the region; by scrutinizing each organization working in this conurbation, in the varied forms of creative communities, collectives and institutions. With these concerning entities, in our previous collaborative projects, we have since established a strong connection in hope to stimulate the unorthodox ecology and practices in the arts. In 2016 we have presented 9 practitioner groups distinctive to the PRD, looking at how such formations have shaped the cultural landscape in the region and its relevance for today’s socio-political context. Therefore, in our last exhibition the core subject of “Capillaries of the Field” have resulted as an intricate network throughout the area, in the advocacy of a thriving creative industry. Three years have passed, the second edition of the “PRD Arts Retrospective” has proposed “How Flows” as a working title, and appointed 9 artist groups to exhibit their trajectory of integration as a community-oriented model in the Pearl River Delta. The concept draws on colonial preoccupations with the plume of “smoke” as sources of likely contagion in the effect of temperature and moisture, the burning “smoke” rising from opium destruction at Humen, and the noxious veil of “smog” enveloping the complexity of our urban-rural divide; such environmental commonality functions as powerful means to communicate messages on localism as an urban phenomena. What are we demanding from the nature ?Or it was just fulfilling our desires? The Deep Flight in the story is actually the essential natural element for living. It told us the story of desires. 保存跟破壞不是對立，卻總令我難之釋懷。這艘飛天潛水艇實是一樣自然中不可缺少、賴之為生的物質，她告訴我們一個關於欲望的故事。我們想跟自然索取一個又一個完滿自己的欲望罷。 Lo Lai Lai Natalie is a former travel journalist and has gained her MFA in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is interested in the development of tourism and the construction of nature. As a learner at the collective organic farm Sangwoodgoon, she also explores the lifestyle of ‘Half-Farming, Half-X’ – a practice that seeks alternatives and autonomy as an artist and Hong-Konger. She has founded the Slow-so TV channel, with a focus on food, farming, fermentation, surveillance and meditation. 勞麗麗是一位「退役」旅遊記者，現修畢香港中文大學藝術碩士(藝術創作)課程。她專注於與旅遊及大自然生態有關的藝術創作。 麗麗現時在生活館學習務農之餘並探索「半農半X」生活方式，這種生活實踐促使她對另類生活模式、以及作為一位香港人兼藝術創作者的自主性作出提問。近期， 她成立了漫慢電視，主要硏究課題跟食物、農耕、蘊釀、慢駛、監視、冥想相關。 ifva Awards Organised by Hong Kong Arts Centre, ifva is an Incubator for Film and Visual media in Asia (formerly the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards).
